Dunlop Tyres around the World
In 1999 some Goodyear and Dunlop tyre business in Europe, Japan and USA were merged through an alliance between Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company of the USA and Sumitomo Rubber Industries of Japan and six new joint venture companies were formed. One of these is Goodyear Dunlop Tires Europe which manages all the tyre businesses of Dunlop & Goodyear brands throughout the European Joint Venture territory. In Europe Dunlop maintains 3 tyre development centres. The main tyre development location is the Dunlop Development Centre at Hanau, Germany. Other Dunlop centres of excellence are at Birmingham, UK for race tyre development and at Montlucon, France for motorcycle tyre development. These three development centres are integrated to expedite the "Race-to-Road" philosophy that powers the Dunlop driving spirit.
Through the Joint Venture agreements, these European development centres are linked to all other Goodyear and Sumitomo Rubber development centres around the world. All three Dunlop technical centres in Europe work jointly with this global network for car tyre, motorcycle and race tyre technology. The tyres developed through this process benefit from the synergies that result from the combined resources of global activity whilst recognising and respecting the local market conditions and requirements. To Feel the Road you must know the road, just as Dunlop has for more than 120 years.
