Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship

The title of the championship reflects Dunlop’s long links with the highly popular Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.

2012 BTCC 6

Thrilling battles between drivers of the likes of Matt Neal and Jason Plato make the BTCC a fan favourite. Last year the New Generation Touring Cars (NGTC) made their debuts, with production-based turbocharged engines, and other significant standardised components. Entries from Audi and Toyota competed against the established manufacturers Honda, BMW, Ford, Vuaxhall and others. This year the top runners move to NGTC spec and the championship welcomes the return of MG.

Dunlop is already part of the process of standardisation, supplying control tyres to all teams. But there are still important differences to keep the tyre designers working: for example both front-wheel and rear-wheel drive cars are involved, in line with the original base vehicle.

Supplying tyres which work equally well whatever the car is a significant and rewarding challenge for the tyre engineer. Rewarding for the road driver too, with the similarity of the BTCC race cars to their road cousins meaning technology filters through to Dunlop’s road products, for example the new Dunlop SportMaxx RT tyre.

The coveted title is disputed over ten races at Britain’s classic circuits, attracting huge track-side and TV audiences. Dunlop’s title sponsorship reflects a long-standing dedication to this significant championship.
